Electroless Nickel Plating
Electroless Nickel Plating is an autocatalytic process which results in uniform deposits over the entire part (inside and outside). The "dog-boning" which occurs in hardchrome is not an issue for electroless nickel. Metals which can be plated include steel, brass, copper, aluminum and lead.
Electroless Nickel Plating Details:
- Electroless Nickel Plating's typical thickness is in the range of .0002" to .002".
- Tight tolerances can be maintained with Electroless Nickel Plating.
- Hydrogen embrittlement bake-out is available with our Electroless Nickel Plating. Please alert us if hydrogen embrittlement is of concern for your application.
- Hardness is approximately 45-48 Rockwell as plated (heat-treatable to 65-67 Rockwell C).
Hardchrome
Hardchrome can successfully be deposited on many substrates, including steel, stainless steel and brass. It is typically used to rebuild worn parts.
Details:
- Thickness range from .0005" to .020" and greater, depending on the application.
- For excessive thicknesses, intermediate grinding is necessary to avoid excessive build-up at ends ("dog-boning").
- Hardness is in the range of 66 - 68 Rockwell C.
- Stripping and internal plating of hardchrome is available
- Please alert us if hydrogen embrittlement is of concern for your application.
Hot Dip Black Oxide on steel and stainless steel (AMS 2485H)
Black Oxide is used as an indoor protective coating for various products, including screws and tooling. This process is performed primarily on steel, although it can also be performed on stainless steel, with varying degrees of success.
Details:
- Our hot dip process gives results that are superior to the room temperature processes used by some shops.
- Does not result in dimensional change, surface build-up or distortion.
- Available with oil or wax, depending on corrosion resistance requirements
